Amazingly, I made it through the first day without
sleeping. After lunch Nick to leave for
a jobsite for a while and Pam & I had great chance to catch up and just
natter. Later we took a quick run down
into Wynnum (pronounced win-num, not wye-num as I had thought) to a supermarket
but otherwise did little. After dinner
there were more conversations, including a long one with Peter. At 8 o’clock I finally “hit the wall” and
retired to bed to sleep for 9 ½ hours, remaining quite unaware of what
apparently was quite a severe thunderstorm.
Tuesday was the beginning of near-normalcy. The weather was intermittent, although no
actual rain. Aside from normal living we
went for quite a long walk along much of the “seafront” of Wynnum which is on a
protected bay with rivers and mangroves and mud. At high tide it is attractive, at low tide
the mudflats are unappealing. We did a
bit of shopping then headed back to have lunch.
Since this was “Anessa day” (equivalent to my “Betty Day”) we headed out
to the next town west (or inland) called Carindale which has an immense
shopping mall (bigger than Greenwood) where we browsed plus Nick was fitted for
a pair of shoes that will be ordered in the color he wants. We sat and had a leisurely coffee before
heading home for a while.
I have taken some pictures of parts of the house and posted
them on Flickr. The other “third” of the
top, or living, floor is a breakfast area and Pam’s nook/study at the rear, a
half-bath, stairs and Nick’s study/nook at the front with side access to the
balcony. This where my “desk” is located
for the duration. Back home my house is
all single level and fully carpeted and the contrast to three levels with steep
stairs and most floors and the two staircases hardwood (because it is cooler)
is quite dramatic.
In the evening we headed over to the Goodyear residence,
which is in a state of chaos being right in the middle of major
renovations. The four of us, Pam, Nick, Peter
Bron and I joined the four Goodyears, Peter, Faye (nee Bron), Rebecca &
James, plus their current au pair girl, Christine from Germany. Pam took all the food, some pre-prepared and
some to be cooked, and the dinner was very nice. We did not stay late, which was good as back
in Wynnum I about fell asleep while skimming through the Repulsive, which of
course doesn’t publish the current day’s edition until the day here is largely
over!
I have posted a few more Flickr
pictures for anybody interested.
Everything has to go to my “photostream” regardless, but I have set up
three sets for “People”, “Miscellaneous” and “Scenery” and once they are
established will allow the viewing of only what is of interest.
